The Warriner Sixth Form Diploma

The Sixth Form Diploma is an internal qualification that all of our Year 12 students undertake. The work for this is expected to take place outside of directed teaching time and is independently led by you. It forms a huge part of what we call the “super curriculum.”

The "super curriculum" is important because it allows students to explore subjects beyond the standard classroom curriculum, demonstrating a deeper interest and commitment to a chosen field, which can be crucial for university applications, particularly when writing personal statements, as it showcases their academic curiosity and ability to learn independently; essentially, it helps students stand out by highlighting their passion for a subject beyond the basic syllabus.

The Value of our Sixth Form Diploma:

Demonstrates subject interest: By engaging with super-curricular activities like reading related books, watching documentaries, or attending lectures, students can showcase their genuine passion for a specific subject area.

Develops critical thinking skills: Exploring topics beyond the classroom often requires students to analyse information critically, evaluate different perspectives, and form their own opinions.

Prepares for university study: Super-curricular activities can expose students to more complex academic concepts and research methods, which are essential for success at university level.

Enhances personal statements: When applying to university, students can use their super-curricular experiences to demonstrate their depth of knowledge and enthusiasm for their chosen subject in their personal statement.

Improves interview performance: Engaging with super-curricular activities can provide students with valuable talking points during university interviews, where they can discuss their insights and motivations related to their chosen field.
